As the red curtain rose in the centre of the stage
A small boy could be seen facing away
Nothing happened for a couple of minutes
The audience began to chat amongst themselves
Where was the show? Why had they come?
Then a spotlight on the boy silenced everyone
And he began to dance
The boy was in rags but he knew how to move
His arms and his legs a pinnochio groove
The music petered out and the audience grumbled
This time he faced out into the crowd
And leaves began to fall
He reached out his hand and caught one with ease
Cast over him were shadows in the shape of old trees
He ran off the stage and the lights all went out
This time the audience began to shout out loud
A bird alone could be overheard
Singing the organ tune transposed up a third
Daybreak came and a canopy grew
Butterflies fluttered and songbirds flew
Our audience now rubbing their eyes
Were in a forest of gargantuan size
The Garden of Eden was the name of this play
And where our good patrons will forever stay

Knock knock ring ring
Devil at the door
I open to my nothingness
Nothing he hasn't seen before
My reflection glows red in his eyes
My reflection glows red in his eyes
He singes my chair as he sits at my table
Cracks my cup as he sips my offering
And the light is flickering out in the hall
Until now he hasn't said anything to me at all
Knock knock ring ring
Devil at the door
His wretched tales curled up across the floor
He eyes his cup and looks at me for more
God I'm thirsty, he growled
Now let's get down to business
Knock knock ring ring
Devil at the door
Earth crust splits and fire spits
We fall unclothed, unnamed and desensed
Flesh is air, breath is stone
Pain vanishes through the valley
Knock knock ring ring
Devil at the door
My reflection glows white in the moon
Knock knock ring ring
Devil here no more

I've been watching the rain fall down
I've been feeling your heart sink low
There's a lamb in your giant hand
I've been hearing Siberian winds
I've been feeling the tension build
Processing through ancient lands
Now we march on unto unknown
Destroy everything we have grown
Staring eyes horses pounding feet
There's a baby here lying dead
Show me the way unto my bed
The shadowland calls to me
Call for help and call out loud
Call the sun from behind the wall
This prayer cushion hurts me
(Abandoned church and chilling breeze
Mosaic stone and dead old leaves
This dream of mine is real)
Dirty hands and shooting pains
Drift from land empty lanes
The candle is extinguished
I've been watching the rain fall down
I've been feeling your heart sink low
There's a lamb in your giant hand

Words have taken to the sky
Fluttering stuttering gliding by
We spoke vows made constant wants
Now just vowels and consonants
Letters scattered through the clouds
Lips are praying without a sound
Throats are dry of empty paper
Lies evaporating vapour
A flock of red pains pass
Pollenating beds of grass
A candle bickers eloquently
As the winds roll in from across the seas
Bringing the rains to wash our hands
The boundaries between our lands
All is still
Soldiers at ease
End of war
Ecstatic streets
Oh words
Words have migrated for the wintertime
Words have taken to the sky
Fluttering stuttering gliding by
We spoke vows made constant wants
Now just vowels and consonants

Who killed Cock Robin?
I said the sparrow
With my bow and arrow
I killed Cock Robin
Who saw him die?
I said the fly
With my little eye
I saw him die
Who caught his blood?
I said the fish
With my little dish
I caught his blood
And who'll make the shroud?
I said the beetle
With my thread and needle
I'll make the shroud
Who'll dig the grave?
I said the owl
With my pick and shovel
I'll dig the grave
And who'll be the clerk?
I said the lark
If it's not in the dark
I'll be the clerk
Who'll be chief mourner?
I said the dove
I mourn for my love
I'll be chief mourner
Who'll carry the coffin?
If it's not through the night
I'll carry the coffin
Who'll toll the bell?
I said the bull
Because I can pull
I'll toll the bell
All the birds of the air fell a-sighing and a-sobbing
When they heard the bell toll for poor Cock Robin

This note says you'll get your words out right
You can have the job if you change your ways
Don't make bets with the man in the suit
i saw his shadow moving all by itself
Tie string around the empty cup
Let it down slow from the old stone bridge
Fill it with water from the murky lake
Later you can sift it for gold
Spend your day feeding the ducks
Make friends with a stray dog or cat
Imagine what goes through the mind of an owl
Write it in a letter to the one you love
Tie string around the empty cup
Let it down slow from the old stone bridge
Fill it with water from the murky lake
Later you can sift it for gold
Fly around the world in a paper plane
Find a bunch of cash and put it in the bin
Collect some leaves in a paper bag
Kick the ball back to the kids in the street
Tie string around the empty cup
Let it down slow from the old stone bridge
Fill it with water from the murky lake
Later you can sift it for gold
